How a print is made

28 August 2026 · 4 min read

Close crop of the Bend print, showing the straight rules curving through the middle of the grid.

The most common question about a shop like this is whether the products are real. It is a fair question. The photographs are composed mockups, the catalogue is small, and nothing on the site says in stock. So here is the whole pipeline, in order, with the slow parts left in.

Nothing exists before you order it

There is no warehouse and no stack of boxes in a spare room. Until someone checks out, a Warp Art piece exists as an artwork file and a product configuration and nothing else.

When an order is accepted, that file goes to our fulfilment partner. They hold the blank garments. They print the design onto one and ship it from whichever of their facilities is closest to your address.

What happens at the print stage

For tees and hoodies the method is direct to garment. A printer lays water-based ink into the fabric rather than pressing a layer of plastic on top of it. That is why a Bend tee feels like a t-shirt rather than a t-shirt with a sticker on it, and why the print does not sit as a stiff panel across the chest.

The trade-off is real and worth stating. Direct to garment is softer and it breathes, but it is not as brutally saturated as a thick screen print. On a dark garment the printer lays a white underbase down first and the colour on top of that. On a white tee the ink goes straight into the cotton.

Caps are not printed at all. They are embroidered, flat, in a single colour, which is exactly why the two cap designs are the simplest marks in the drop. Thread will not hold a forty line grid.

Why it takes longer

Printing takes 2 to 5 business days before anything ships. Transit is another 3 to 8 depending on where you are. Those are estimates from our fulfilment partner rather than promises anyone here controls, and the two numbers add up rather than overlapping. A normal order lands somewhere between about one and two and a half weeks after it is placed.

That is slower than pulling a folded shirt off a shelf. Better to say so here than to bury it under a cheerful delivery date at checkout.

What made to order actually buys you

Three things, and only three.

  • No dead stock. Nothing gets printed in a size or a colour nobody wanted, and nothing goes to landfill because someone guessed wrong about how many mediums to order.
  • Every size stays available. There is no sold out in L, because there was never a pile of L to sell out of.
  • The catalogue can be honest about its size. What you see in the shop is the whole shop, not the shop plus a back room full of last season.

What it costs you

Waiting, and one restriction on returns.

If something turns up misprinted, cracked, or damaged in transit, send a photo within 30 days and it gets replaced. No return shipping, no argument. That covers every failure on this side of the line.

Change of mind is the one thing that cannot work. The piece did not exist until it was ordered, so there is nothing to put back on a shelf. That is a direct consequence of holding no stock rather than a policy designed to trap anyone, and it is the honest price of everything in the list above. The full wording is on the terms page.

The short version

You order. A file goes to a printer. Someone puts ink into cotton. It ships from the facility nearest you. Nothing was made before you asked for it, and nothing is left over afterwards.
