About Warp Art

Warp Art makes wearable optical art. Simple geometric systems, each one put through exactly one distortion, printed to order.

What this is

A small shop with a narrow idea behind it. Start with something plain: a grid, a stack of parallel lines, a field of dots. Apply one distortion to the whole thing. Bend it, shear it, fold it, twist it. Then stop. No second effect, no texture layer, no drop shadow to make it look expensive.

That constraint is the reason the designs work on a body. A print with one thing going on stays legible at ten metres and still rewards you at arm’s length. A print with five things going on is a mess at both distances.

Who makes it

Tobias Köhler. Designer and developer, twenty years of building things for the web, currently working between Austria and Thailand. The trading entity is ConnectEngine LLC, registered in Wyoming, and it is the same entity behind everything else I run.

There is no team and no committee. If a design ships, it is because I would wear it.

Why it looks like this

The whole visual system comes from the mark: seven straight lines put through one sine wave. The site is white, black, one grey and one lime, and it stays that way so the prints supply the colour.

The other reason this site exists

Full honesty: this shop is also a live demo. I build websites for agencies at mauerwerk.studio, and this is a real store I own, so I can show it to anyone without asking a client’s permission first. It runs on WordPress and Bricks with hand-written CSS and motion, self-hosted fonts, no page-builder bloat and no image CDN. Every claim I make about build quality over there, you can measure here.

Both things are true at once: the shirts are real and I want you to buy one, and the site is a portfolio piece. Saying so seems better than pretending otherwise.

If the shop looks quiet, that is deliberate. The work is the loud part.

Bend, a grid of straight rules curved through the middle, printed on a white t-shirt.Pulse, evenly spaced lines squeezed together and pulled apart in one wave, printed on a black hoodie.Orbit, a single ring pulled off-centre, stitched flat on a black cap.
